Winter 2024 Economic update

The second quarter of the year saw further strong returns from some of the world’s largest technology companies, which helped drive the share market to record highs in the US. However, outside of the much-hyped information technology space, the performance of other sectors and regions was generally more mixed.

In this update, we take a closer look at the idea that big firms have delivered the best returns recently. We also examine New Zealand inflation and interest rate settings and consider whether the upcoming US election should matter all that much to most investors.
